Client
A large division of a Fortune 100 corporation and one of the world’s leading suppliers to the energy industry, providing a comprehensive range of solutions for oil and gas, power generation and energy management.
Challenge
The client had committed to increasing internal productivity through digitization. As a result, the project’s focus was to create a supplier extranet to integrate sourcing and procurement systems and tighten links with the client’s supplier base. This integration required interaction with multiple organizations and applications, and the client needed a single vendor with the depth of knowledge to support the project as well as the flexibility to meet its changing requirements.
Solution
MDI worked with the business process owners to develop a team of consultants including project managers, data and systems integrators and software testers. Not only were the project managers there to complete the implementation, but they also worked directly with end users to maintain communication, establish a formal change-management methodology, create an issues-resolution tracking system, and assist with final user acceptance testing. MDI continually adjusted the size and composition of the team, which ranged between 14 and 42 consultants, to comply with the client’s budgetary requirements and the various stages of the project.
Results
MDI met the demanding needs of the project by providing the methodology, tools and templates to generate 17 supplier extranet applications. This allowed the client’s employees to focus their efforts on business needs while MDI focused on integration and implementation. MDI enabled the client to meet every major milestone in the project plan and streamlined the client’s eProcurement activity, which helped achieve critical cost reduction objectives. Based on MDI’s strong performance on this project, the client has continued to select MDI for additional professional services engagements.
